I eventually cancelled and booked somewhere else because my direct reservation went unconfirmed for several days. The hostel was slow to communicate and hadn’t charged my card, even though its terms say it will charge the full booking amount for cancellations within three days of arrival. Before that, I’d been asked to email my card details in plain text, which felt like a serious security and compliance risk. While I was in Melbourne, I happened to meet a few people who had worked or volunteered at this hostel. They all had negative things to say about the place and its management. I stayed at the hostel up the road instead, and they confirmed my direct booking within a few hours.

I met wonderful people and had such a good time here. The hostel feels social, cosy, clean and familiar, with activities and plans to join in. My favourite was the Wednesday family dinner. Everyone makes you feel welcome on arrival, and the staff are extremely nice and helpful. Shoutout to Guilly, the coolest manager, and Helen, who was so sweet. Best hostel I’ve ever stayed in. If you’re in Melbourne, this is the place to be :)

I only spent three nights at Landing Pads, but I could easily have stayed longer. The crew quickly sent me the e-Reader I’d forgotten in my bed, so highly recommended! I’m introverted and a bit shy, but still had some lovely conversations. I caught the Wednesday Family dinner and felt welcome right away. It’s not the usual in-and-out hostel, since lots of people stay a long time, but even those of us there just a few nights are made to feel equally welcome.

The breakfast was amazing, and it’s free. The beds were comfortable, the reception staff friendly and welcoming, and the price felt like great value. A few practical things are missing, such as power outlets by the beds, but it’s clearly a new hostel and they’re working on improvements. I’d definitely stay again.

Landing Pads has been the best part of my time in Australia. Every guest stays at least a week, which makes it easier to connect with people. For a first-time solo traveller who’s nervous about making friends somewhere new, I think staying here is a great decision. The staff host free family dinners each Wednesday, plus occasional karaoke and craft nights. Huge shoutout to Leander for welcoming new guests and making sure everyone in the house feels seen. I’m so grateful for the amazing time I spent with such incredible people. If I make it back to Melbourne, I know there’ll be a home away from home waiting at Landing Pads!
