Reception was very friendly, and the stay wasn’t bad overall. But the air con didn’t work at all. We followed the advice and lowered it in 2 degree increments, but the room never cooled down, so it was hot and stuffy all night. The carpark was another hassle. Getting down the ramp was an interesting task because it’s so narrow and tight, and there’s no lift back up to the lobby, so my poor partner had to carry both suitcases up all those stairs. I understand hotels take a security deposit, but the surcharge we paid on ours wasn’t reimbursed. It was only a few dollars, but it’s the principle.

The location was good and both rooms were clean, but the stay was disappointing. Neither room had a table to eat at. In the second room we had two queen beds, but the air con still didn’t respond well. The first two nights were poor too, with two king singles pushed together. One was among the worst hotel beds I’ve experienced despite having travelled a fair bit. The air conditioning didn’t respond to changes, as other reviews have mentioned. After the first night a technician tried, unsuccessfully, to fix the temperature, and it swung from one extreme to another. Reception staff were pleasant, but being told the whole building has poor air conditioning wasn’t what we wanted to hear. We also pointed out water leaking from the ceiling above the bath, and were moved to another room. Getting our cleaning bond back took a long time, and we had to make two phone calls after the first request fell through the cracks.

Our stay was a nightmare. In Room 315, we found multiple blood stains on the bedding of both beds. Management later admitted in writing that there had been a housekeeping “lapse,” confirming the linens had not been changed before our stay. We were left with children in that contaminated room until finally being moved at midnight on the second night. Management has refused a full refund for the nights we spent in those hazardous conditions and offered only a 15% discount. That’s unacceptable for a biohazard. I’ve filed formal reports with the City of Melbourne Health Department and Consumer Affairs Victoria. Don’t stay here if you value hygiene or safety.

My room was spotless, comfortable, and well equipped, and everything worked as it should. Melbourne City Suites Hotel Apartment is in a great spot with easy access to everything in the city. The staff welcomed me warmly, were professional, and always ready to help. I appreciated the attention to detail and had a marvelous stay. Highly recommend to anyone visiting Melbourne. I’ll definitely be back!

The room was adequate and the location is great, but the poor customer service made the stay frustrating. We booked for 7 people and arrived to find bedding for only 6. Reception acknowledged the room rate was for 7, but said a rollaway bed would cost extra. Parking was also a problem. I called before booking because parking mattered to us, and was told there was a car park and that they’d reserve a spot if I provided the vehicle registration. When we arrived, the public car park was full. I was lucky to wait until someone left and get a space, but calling it reserved was extremely misleading. The overnight fee was cheaper than the hotel car park fee we had already paid. If the parking had been explained properly, I’d have chosen another hotel with its own garage. I chose self-check-in, which was meant to come with an instruction email the day before. It never arrived, and after I called reception on check-in morning to request another, they said they’d resend it, but that didn’t come through either. Check-in was very clunky: Melbourne City Suites operates out of a hotel room in another hotel, with reception on the 8th floor. Four people were ahead of us and we waited about 30 minutes. I wouldn’t go back.
