Melbourne Marriott Hotel

The club lounge was a letdown. It served a spinach ricotta puff and meat pies that tasted like they came from a Woolies snack pack, which is far from what I'd expect at a 'Club' lounge. The rest of the Google reviews seem to share similar feelings about the property. It's looking tired, with peeling paint in the walkways and rooms that feel very early 2000s. It has more of a Mercure vibe than Marriott, and definitely isn't five-star.

My sister surprised me with balloons and decorations in the room for my 50th birthday, and it was unforgettable. The Melbourne Marriott Hotel team even helped us with cleanup bags afterward. From the concierge and buffet wait staff to housekeeping, everyone was thoughtful and nothing felt like too much trouble. I felt that same warmth and attention throughout the stay, from arrival onward. The service was professional and welcoming, and the staff went above and beyond to make sure everything was right. The room was spacious, clean, beautifully appointed, and very comfortable, with bedding that made for a great night's sleep. The facilities were excellent, and the hotel felt elegant but relaxed. Its central location was ideal for walking to shopping, restaurants, and major attractions. We stayed overnight and went to the magic show “Impossible Occurrences” with Luke Hocking’s at the hotel. I've seen the show about six times now, and it was exceptional again. If you haven't seen it, you must go! Thank you to everyone at Melbourne Marriott Hotel for making my birthday feel so special. I'll absolutely be back.

Breakfast was great value, and the buffet was set up very well. When the coffee machine stopped working properly, the team quickly made us proper Cafe coffee instead. The hostess talked with guests and kept checking that things were running smoothly, with a capable, willing team behind her. It's a friendly, well appointed hotel, and the staff welcomed us warmly and tried to accommodate requests, offering alternatives when they couldn't. We'll be back.

The hotel is well located for the city, but it feels a bit tired and wasn't what I expected from a Marriott. Breakfast could be chaotic, with missing items like teapots and spoons that we had to ask for. The coffee machine was temperamental and a constant frustration. There are probably better hotels in Melbourne in a good location.
