Mercure Melbourne Doncaster

We really liked the room, which felt modern and stylish and had everything we needed for one night. The air conditioning was another story when we arrived at 9:30pm. It was set to 16 degrees and the room was freezing, even though the foyer felt just right. We changed it to 22, but nothing seemed to happen. After we called room service a second time, staff came and set it to 27. We'd called once already to ask for blankets. A note explaining how the air conditioning should be set might help. :|

We had a one bedroom suite and liked the space, comfy bed, clean room, nice towels, proper dining table and bathroom. The two big TVs, working coffee machine and good heating and air conditioning were welcome too. Staff were all nice, and room servicing was uneventful. We loved the bath, even if it took ages to fill, and the shower had both a rain head and a lower telephone head. Parking was good and EV charging was available. The gym had a Pilates reformer. We didn't try the food. The business centre, just a long bench with a printer and an apple screen, seemed pretty pointless. It would have been nice to have a charging cable, which feels as important as a power point these days.

We couldn't find any information in the room about the hotel's facilities, not even a QR code, and reception didn't tell us either. As a result, we missed the pool and didn't know when breakfast finished. The hotel itself is modern and quiet, with good soundproofing, comfortable beds and plump, supportive pillows. The rooms are a good size, and we enjoyed both room service and the buffet breakfast. The location works well if you need to be in this part of Melbourne, with Westfield across the street.

The location beside Doncaster Westfield is probably the best thing about the hotel, especially for a short stay. The pool and gym are pretty good, though I wish the gym were a little wider and had more leg equipment, like a leg press and barbells. I tried the buffet breakfast once. It was decent, but mostly basic options, and the food sometimes went cold quickly. I think $25-30 would be fairer than $33. I did appreciate that tea and coffee were included, since some hotels charge for each coffee. I stayed two nights and had a decent visit. The room and bathroom were nice, but the shower pressure was low. Guest services rarely answered when I called, only picking up twice after many attempts. I think the lobby needs more people to handle calls, though the employees themselves were nice. Our room was near the function rooms over the weekend, and music carried on until 11pm. We had no window that opened, and the TV connection was poor.
