The check-in arrangement is misleading. You have to collect the keys at a run-down place in Carlton, then go back into the city. The apartment was clean, but falling apart, with ripped, threadbare carpet and kitchen flooring that was lifting. I was booked in by someone else who sincerely tried to find somewhere inexpensive and well located. It is cheap, but there’s a reason. I’d only stay if I had no other choice.

I travel a lot and stay in plenty of hotels, and having to check in at a separate place in Carlton, inconveniently more than 2 km away, is the most ridiculous arrangement I’ve come across. I discovered it by pure fluke after booking. It’s especially bad if you’re travelling for business without a car or arriving late.

The $300 deposit is steep, and collecting the key elsewhere is inconvenient. That should be made clear when you book. In the room, the carpet was badly worn and a trip hazard that needs urgent repair. The furniture and paint are old and worn too. The whole room needs renovating. Two stars overall.
