Quest on Bourke

Trams stop right outside, and there are great food options close by. The city location is good, though train stations are a little further away. Internet was very limited and paid, with just 250MB a day free. The clean apartments were sufficiently furnished, and the basic kitchen and bathroom were comfortable and clean. Good value for the price, and reception staff were friendly and helpful.

We came back because this place could be perfect for a Melbourne stay if it were run properly and had adequate facilities. Instead, it's a joke. Despite getting email confirmation just two days before arrival, we weren't 'in the system' when we showed up, and it took 45 minutes to get a room. It felt like a previously unused back room, with no heating and none of the usual folder of room information. They offered a pathetic little blow heater, then, after I got angry, brought a larger one. When I asked about the heating, they said 'the heating system is being upgraded'. That's exactly what we were told when we stayed here 12 months ago. Stay away at all costs!

Reception staff were lovely every time, and our room was spotless and comfortable. It did smell of cigarette smoke, though. The location was good, central to the shopping district and theatres, with food easy to get to.

The staff are nice, which is the only good thing I can say. The lights flicker on and off for 30 seconds before coming on. My room had a leaking ceiling, so they had to move me. The tub is huge and has jets, but you have to stand in it to shower, with no curtain. Not my favourite place.
