Sheraton Melbourne Hotel

Before seeing The Book of Mormon at the Princess Theatre, we had a lovely meal at LCAK at the Sheraton. The service was fantastic, and the location made it an easy, stress-free walk to the show. The dry-aged beef sirloin was juicy and full of flavor, especially with the chimichurri sauce. I finished with a lovely layered cake and a pot of Earl Grey tea. A great experience from start to finish, and I'd highly recommend it for a good meal before a show.

Breakfast had a good range of food, though the bread and rolls seemed like they were from the day before rather than fresh. I liked the pool, but the jacuzzi was disappointing. It connects to the pool and is only comfortably warm, not like a typical hot jacuzzi. The steam sauna was okay, though not as hot as I expected. The hotel is very nice, in an excellent CBD location near Parliament Station and well connected by public transport. My room was clean, tidy and spacious, which made the stay comfortable.

The heated indoor pool was a big hit after busy days in the city, and the rooms were comfortable with enough space for a family. The family package was thoughtfully put together: kids ate free, breakfast was included each day, and the welcome drinks and kids' amenity were lovely touches. Dining at Little Collins Street Kitchen made things easy, then we could head straight out to the laneways, museums, parks and Melbourne icons, all just minutes away. Sheraton Melbourne Hotel is right in the CBD, with the FREE Tram Zone outside, so getting around with kids was simple. Our school holiday stay was relaxed and stress-free, and the 1pm late checkout meant no rushing. A great central city escape for families.

The kind, caring and helpful staff were the one bright spot, and I really appreciated them. The room itself was tiny, the bed squeaked badly, and the bathroom door was broken so it only closed halfway. Breakfast was disappointing too. Eggs were available only by order, which meant a long wait. I'd expect a buffet to have a few egg options ready, with omelettes made on request. Cold food was awkwardly stored together with freshly chopped onions in one upright fridge. Opening it for orange juice, I got a strong onion smell, then an overpowering rockmelon smell, then cheese. The rockmelon and watermelon looked old and unappealing. It was a really unpleasant experience. The coffee machine made the worst coffee I've had at a hotel.
