Nightcap at Skyways Hotel

The hotel seems to take second place to the busy gaming room, which made sense after seeing it. I didn't use the pokies or restaurant. Staff were direct and a bit terse, though seeing how some gaming patrons treated them, I could understand that. There's limited tea and coffee and no cutlery in the room, which gave me the impression guests are being steered toward the gaming room. Room 3 was cramped and had a stale cigarette smell despite all the no-smoking signs. The shower door only opened enough for me to squeeze past the sink. The unrestricted rain shower head was great, but a handheld one would help since there's no room to bend over in the cubicle. The beds sloped slightly downhill toward the head; swapping ends helped, and they were soft enough for a decent sleep. At 3am I woke to women screaming outside the window as if someone had been murdered. Police came, and I heard one woman say she was drunk and had lost her phone. At 6am hammer drills woke me again while the gaming room and its contents were being moved. A warning would have let me adjust my sleep schedule. Luckily, my flight had been moved forward by a couple of hours, so I could take a slow start. The door card reader failed, but staff fixed it quickly. I left my luggage when I arrived early. When I came back to check in, it took a while to locate the keys before we could get our things. At least the luggage seemed secure, which isn't something every hotel provides.

For a short stay, it was good. The room was clean and fresh apart from a couple of mosquitoes, which may have got in when the cleaners left the door open. The air conditioning worked well. Shampoo and body wash were provided, but no toothpaste. I was there one night for work, checking in late and leaving early. Dinner at the restaurant came with a 10% discount for hotel guests. I asked reception about somewhere nearby that opened early for breakfast, but the person there couldn't help. There is a shopping centre within walking distance.

It's very close to the airport, but I wouldn't return after this weekend. The bed and bathroom were clean, though the air conditioner gave off an odd smell. There were visible marks on the blind and furniture, and sound carried through the walls.

The room and location were okay, but the service was terrible. I couldn't get anyone to answer my calls, and there was nobody at the desk when I went to check out. The place doesn't operate around the clock. A gaming lounge is nearby, so late hours can be busy.
