We were disappointed enough to leave after one night, even though we had booked two. We’d made a last-minute booking based on the good reviews and attractive website photos, but for $250 a night it didn’t feel worth it. Maybe $150 at most. It was drizzling when we arrived in the late afternoon. The verandah was untidy, with neglected pot plants and leaves everywhere, and clearly needed cleaning up and a fresh coat of paint. The outdoor furniture wasn’t inviting either. Beverly greeted us and seemed like a lovely elderly lady. When we asked about the condition of the house, she called it quaint. We were put in the Edwardian suite, with a sitting room, bedroom, and bathroom. Everything was clean, but very worn, especially the bathroom. Breakfast was self serve, with bread bought the day before, cereal, a toaster, and a kettle. It was barely enough. I tried calling Beverly three times to talk about our concerns, but she never answered.

We only stayed one night at this lovely place on the peninsula, though I could easily have stayed longer. It’s a beautiful property, and breakfast had some great options, including hot cross buns in the lead-up to Easter.

Beverly was a friendly, welcoming host, and this was a real working farm with horses, alpaccas, geese, and chooks. We stayed in the Edwardian Suite in the main house. The rooms felt homely and a little quirky, with lots of nick naks, but had everything we needed. The bed was super comfortable, and there was plenty of continental breakfast food in the room. It smelled a bit musty when we first walked in, but otherwise all was good. It was a bit like staying with your country nanna 😊

The cottage has a lovely old-fashioned feel, and the breakfast supplies are generous. It stayed cosy in winter with the log fire and plenty of quick ways to warm up. The area is peaceful, and Red Hill and Flinders restaurants are only about 10 minutes away.

My daughter could only describe the place as enchanting. We stayed in The Cottage, which felt comfortable and homely, with fresh linen and lovely fresh air. Breakfast was especially good: eggs, bacon, tomatoes, great bread and butter, plus fresh fruit. We enjoyed watching alpacas, native birds and bunnies while we ate. The spot is handy for getting around the Peninsula, though it helps to know your way since internet can be patchy, at least with Vodafone.
