The Cullen Melbourne - Art Series

The location is pretty good, and some of the artwork is much nicer than the strange piece in our room. Sleep was difficult, though. Housekeeping started making noise outside before 8am and spoke loudly to guests about cleaning their rooms. The doors don’t block sound, and I’d guess the windows aren’t double glazed either, since car alarms went off all night.

The Cullen was a comfortable place to stay, with very polite and helpful staff. We were in Prahran to visit our son and daughter-in-law, so the location worked perfectly. There are plenty of good bars and restaurants nearby, an excellent market across the street, and good links into the city.

Both Friday and Saturday nights were incredibly noisy until dawn, even after I changed rooms following the first night. I’d specifically asked the booking agent about noise, but they didn’t mention the hotel is right across from a nightclub. Instead of a relaxing weekend away, I got even less sleep. I completed a survey after the visit in response to their email, but heard nothing back. Wouldn’t recommend.

The staff were wonderful from check-in through to checkout, and our room had clean, comfortable furnishings and incredibly comfortable beds. The artwork in the room and around the hotel is a real feature that catches your eye. We also got great suggestions for places to eat nearby. There’s a wide choice of cuisines within easy walking distance, and everywhere we tried was great. We’d definitely recommend this hotel for a quality stay in Prahran, and it’ll be our first choice next time we visit.
