Both the fish and chips and the chicken curry bowl with naan were excellent. The fish had a crisp, light coating, and I could happily have had the tartare sauce by itself. The curry was full of flavour, the ingredients were well balanced, and the chicken was especially juicy. We’d stopped in for a meal while walking around the area, and the staff made us feel welcome straight away. They let us choose where to sit, brought the food quickly, and checked how we were going during the meal without hovering. It was one of the highlights of our day, and we’d gladly come back.

The menu is simple but has enough variety for most people, and the specials were good and broad. Drink options are standard but good, including De Bortoli wine and Hargreaves Hill beer. I had the steak sanga, one of the best I’ve tasted in a while, though you need to like a strong garlic aioli. It was a very filling lunch. Apparently the hamburger is huge and amazing too. The service was lovely and the atmosphere was great. Simple food, done nicely.

We waited well over an hour for our coffee, with no update, explanation or even a basic apology. The delay was made worse by staff who came across as rude and unwelcoming from the moment we arrived. Even simple questions seemed to try their patience, and we felt like an inconvenience. A café visit should be relaxing, but this one was frustrating and wasted our time. The place let us down on both service and food and drinks. We wouldn’t recommend it or return unless the service and professionalism improve significantly.

The setting is beautiful, and the staff were lovely. This Grand old Lady is too beautiful to call a pub! The portions were so big that I wondered if I should have shared. The Bushmans parma was the best, loaded with bacon and topped with an egg over a sea of melted cheese. Yum! The steak sandwiches were amazing too, and there are meals for kids as well.

I haven’t actually set foot in the Grand Hotel, so I don’t know how to rate it. We were doing Traffic Control outside the other day for Lucas Tree Services, good guys. We agreed Healesville is lovely to visit. I’m from Box Hill and the Ute driver is from Clyde. One small thing from outside, the G in “Grand Hotel” looks like an O and needs touching up.
