The service felt wonderfully personal and old-world. We arrived just before opening time, and the manager came out himself to check us in. The 19th-century rooms are beautiful, with two-story ceilings, and it’s an easy walk to Southern Cross station. There’s a majestic central staircase with a Christmas tree, too. It’s a completely different feel from a soulless corporate hotel. I’d absolutely stay again.

Denis, the Owner and General Manager, greeted me and checked me in. We had some great conversations, and my room had everything I needed. I stayed at The Grand Hotel Melbourne for six nights and will definitely return. Denis is passionate and positive about his work and customer service, and someone people in the hotel and hospitality business could learn from. A 10/10 experience.

A handwritten welcome card and chocolates were waiting in the room, and we were greeted very warmly on arrival with a complimentary room upgrade. The old building is beautiful and in a great location. We’ll definitely stay again.

The room was just right, with a very comfortable bed and full kitchen facilities. We also loved the indoor pool, spa, sauna and gym. Parking is available on site at a reasonable rate, and the location is spot on, with Crown, Southern Cross Station and Marvel Stadium right nearby. The hallways are enormous and stunning. If you’ve seen “the shinning,” you’ll appreciate them. Make sure to see the grand staircase on level 2, it’s just Devine. We stayed two nights and WOW, what an experience. Denis, the owner, greeted us outside with open arms, then the beautiful reception team made check-in quick and easy. There was a lovely handwritten card from Denis and chocolates in the room. Old-school charm and old-school customer service ♥️ Do yourself a favour and visit.

Getting to Southern Cross station, marvel stadium and the exhibition centre is easy, which makes this a good option for regional travellers. We’ll stay at the Grand Hotel Melbourne again. Our sixth-floor room was clean, spacious and had full kitchen facilities. The halls and their grand ceiling height really impressed us, and it was refreshing to find a city stay with classic character instead of another forgettable modern room. The building is lovely, but the customer service is what made the stay. Staff were wonderful from arrival through checkout. The person who checked us in explained everything we needed, escorted us to our secure weekend parking spot and showed us around the facilities.
