Great Southern Hotel Melbourne

The room was basic but clean and seemed fair for the price. Staff were easy and quick to deal with, and the location was super convenient for the stadium and train station while we were in town for a concert. The air conditioning leak affected the stay. A bath mat had been left by the door to catch water, but nobody told us, so we opened the door to a wet mat and a wet floor sign. It looked like the leak ran from the first floor to the ground floor. Without the aircon running, the room got extremely stuffy. It was fine for a short, convenient stay, but the maintenance problem and lack of communication did have an impact.

Southern Cross Station is so close that you can get pretty much anywhere. We were unsure about parking in the city, so prebooked at the Value parking lot at the airport and took the Skybus in. That was very easy. We loved staying here while visiting Melbourne for the Australian Open. Check-in and checkout were simple, and the staff were always welcoming and friendly. Housekeeping were excellent, kind, and happy to help with any request. Our room was bigger than expected and fit two adults, two children, and our luggage without feeling cramped. The huge ensuite had a shower and bath, the water pressure was excellent, and the beds were comfortable. It was very quiet at night despite the busy street, and the blinds blocked out the light. We look forward to staying again on our next trip. Thank you, Great Southern Hotel! 🙂

For an overnight stay before catching the Skybus to the airport, the hotel's proximity to Southern Cross railway station was handy. The room was clean and the bed comfortable, and check-in and checkout were efficient and personable. There's a downstairs restaurant for dinner, plus an all-you-can-eat breakfast for AUD $18. Good value and a convenient way to start the day.

Daisy, you rock! The staff were really friendly, and they kept our luggage after checkout while we toured Melb and waited for our train. The room was clean, the TV apps were easy to use, the aircon worked well, and the shower was fantastic. Great access to the CBD and venues. I've stayed at the nearby Best Western, and Great Southern beats it hands down. A fantastic experience.
