The location is excellent, and the check-in codes worked fine. Email responses were fine too. But the room was clean and still felt run down, with refurbishment badly needed. The aircon didn’t work, so two pedestal fans had been left in the bedroom with the windows cracked open. Very disappointing. The lift was a nightmare. Its ground-floor call button didn’t work, so we had to wait for someone to bring it down before we could go up. One night we waited almost 20 minutes after returning to the hotel. Ridiculous. Finding the Strand parking entrance is tricky too, so drive slowly to avoid going past it and having to circle around.

The location was somewhat convenient, but dealing with the unmanned reception was annoying. They lost my reservation and moved me between rooms for the first couple of nights. Then, halfway through the stay, they randomly cancelled my keycard. They also remade my bed with filthy sheets. There seemed to be dried, crusty food or vomit and hair trapped between the sheet and doona, and they refused to change it. None of this came with an explanation or apology.

I was very disappointed. We booked a Deluxe King Studio expecting working facilities, but the air conditioning was broken. There were three fans in the room instead, even though it was over 30 degrees outside. We asked staff to move us, and they refused. They should have told us at check-in that the aircon wasn’t working. Not being informed beforehand felt misleading and dishonest, and the whole thing felt like false advertising.

The room felt like a home away from home, and we’ll come back on our next trip to Melbourne. We booked for the location and price, and had noticed the low review rating before we arrived, so we were pleasantly surprised. The apartment was spacious and very clean, the bed was really comfortable, and the reception staff were lovely. The building also felt secure. It’s right in the centre of the cbd, close to transport, shopping and restaurants. We had all the utensils we needed, plus a washing machine with detergent, which was a first for us. Thanks for a great stay.

It took 45 minutes to get a key, and it wasn’t a great experience. Nobody was at the counter, so we had to call a number and speak with someone whose English and ability to help seemed limited. It felt like talking to a three-year-old. Don’t book with them.
