The dirty glassware in the cupboard, dusty bathroom vents, and handprints and food stains on the balcony glass made the cleaning disappointing. The main air conditioner had heavy dust and mould buildup, and the bedroom units were visibly dusty and mouldy too. Their loud clunking noises came and went throughout our stay. The dryer’s water container was completely full and had to be emptied before we could use it. That seemed like a missed housekeeping step, and the buildup on the air conditioners looked long term. Our main disappointment came at check-in. We’d chosen this hotel specifically because the listing said the bedding was one King, one Queen, and two Double beds. Reception said they couldn’t fix the setup and just apologized. Management later changed one set of single beds to a queen, but said they couldn’t provide the remaining double beds because they were actually two singles. We were told the advertisement was wrong, and the staff hadn’t even heard of scoopon, who we booked through. We’d called before arriving to ask about tennis rackets and balls so we wouldn’t bring our own. We were told they were available for hire, but when we wanted to play there was no staff available because of reduced hours. An honesty box or similar might let guests access them at any time. The pool table also didn’t match the website photos: a pole gets in the way, and the triangle doesn’t fit or work properly. It’s the little things that matter. Our bond was refunded in full, but it took over 48 hours after checkout. Once we followed up, the money appeared in our account straight away, though we were told the delay was due to our bank.

We were on the ninth floor, with amazing views, lovely decor, and a clean apartment. The hotel has been refurbished. The three-bedroom balcony felt very small for an apartment that sleeps six, with just a small table and four chairs, and there was no BBQ. In the master bedroom, the bathroom is tiny and has no door, so the WC is fully visible from the bed and there’s definitely no privacy. The air conditioning kept starting a noisy drone every five minutes. Reception couldn’t get maintenance out on the weekend, but the receptionist was lovely and apologetic, and offered us a pedal fan.

We left a day early after my family member and I both woke up with severely swollen faces, like an allergic reaction. Dust in the room seemed the most likely cause, and this has never happened to us at any other place we’ve stayed. Reception said we should have contacted them sooner, but the receptionist was hardly at the desk and our calls and emails the day before went unanswered. We really had tried to reach someone. Management made excuses by email instead of helping, even saying our allergies were pre-existing, which is completely untrue. They wouldn’t compensate us for the night we couldn’t stay and showed no care, apology, or responsibility. The room was newly renovated and looked nice, but the service and handling of this issue were very disappointing.

The oceanfront view from our room was the best we’ve ever had, and the receptionist was friendly and helpful. My husband and I had a fabulous stay at the Pacific Beach Resort last Saturday. Cafes and restaurants are right outside the hotel, the beach is across the road, and Coles is a short walk away. Reception is being renovated, but it didn’t affect our stay. We’ll definitely be back.

Great location, and having a carpark with the room was handy. We had everything we needed, and it was a shame to leave. Awesome place to stay, not bad at all.
