The room was dirty, run down and clearly not maintained. The bathroom was filthy, cabinets were broken and there were holes in the walls that hadn’t been plastered. The pool was green and murky, and looked completely unclean, so it was unusable. Check-in was advertised for 2:00pm, but reception was shut when we arrived and nobody was there. We called several times without an answer, then eventually got a call back saying someone would arrive at 2:15pm. We said we’d grab something to eat nearby and return shortly. At about 3:15pm reception was still closed, so we had to call again. After checking us in, staff said they’d hired a photographer to take pictures of our room for the website. We could go in, but the photographer would come later, so we couldn’t properly unpack, shower, relax or settle in. Our bags had to stay in the car, and we’d paid for a room we couldn’t use at the advertised check-in time. Afterwards, the owner called and said we’d only get a refund if we took down our reviews. No wonder this place seems like a lovely motel, the reviews are fabricated. Don’t offer a refund if you’re just going to extort your guests. The whole stay felt completely unacceptable for paid accommodation.

Bella and the team at Murwillumbah Motor Inn were a pleasure to work with recently. They’re committed to a clean, comfortable stay and great service. It’s a charming small accommodation business, well worth visiting if you’re in the Murwillumbah area. Highly recommend!

Room 3 is very old and dated, and badly needs a refit. The bathroom was dirty, there was a stain on the carpet, the kitchenette cabinets should be thrown out, and there was no power point near one bed. At check-in, we were handed the key and told we could go into the room but couldn’t use it because a photographer was coming to photograph it. We arrived at 2 and the office was closed. The pool looked murky green, and staff weren’t on site. We got a call back only after leaving four messages. The owner contacted me afterwards and offered a refund if I took down the review. I refused, and he said there’d be no refund.

What makes this place memorable is its character, comfort and sense of peace. There’s no pretence, and the management is just awesome. It’s within walking distance of everything you could want from regional Northern NSW. Charming and peaceful, with a warm, simple feel. It really feels like home away from home, and my stay was memorable. Kudos to the management.

The Murwillumbah end of the Northern Rivers Rail Trail was the highlight of our trip, and I’ll be back. We stayed here on the last night of a weekend exploring the trail. The room was great, the bed comfortable and it had all the facilities we needed. The centre of Murwillumbah was an easy walk away, and there was even an EV charger for guests. Staff were super friendly too.
