Mystery Bay Cottages

The cottage was roomy, stylish and comfortable, with everything we needed. We especially liked using the fireplace on chilly evenings. The staff were so friendly and helpful, too. It’s a peaceful, private place surrounded by nature, and the setting is lovely. Each morning brought fresh air and birdsong, and we enjoyed walking to the beach. A really special stay that helped us relax and recharge, and one I’ll always remember. ❤️

We spent five nights in one of the cottages, and I can see why Laurence spoke so warmly about the place when I called. I’d been carefully searching for the right location to propose to my now-fiancée, and Mystery Bay Cottages felt like the one. We had a lovely, intimate break together, with waves audible in the distance, a steady ocean breeze, cool weather, wildlife and the sounds of nature. We barely picked up our phones and never even turned on the TV. There’s a thin strip of national park nearby, with two separate, quiet beaches a short walk away. The other side has green, rolling hills, and the cottages really do feel tucked away. On our back verandah, Crimson Rosella's and Rainbow Lorikeets ate from our hands. We also saw many of the 76 bird species recorded on-site, plus an echidna, possums, wallabies and other wildlife near the cottages. The location works well for exploring. Tilba is just a couple of minutes away, a pretty, quaint tourist town for a stroll and lunch, and Tilba Valley Winery & Ale House has nice meals. Narooma is about 15 minutes in the other direction and has everything you might want. Mystery Bay Cottages is roughly between Batemans Bay and Bega. The cottages had all the amenities we needed, and I didn’t leave wishing we’d done anything differently. I don’t usually write reviews, but my fiancée and I will definitely come back. Laurence was friendly and called to let us know the cottage was ready early. We loved the peaceful setting, time among nature and the beautiful birds. We also watched humpback whales from Billy’s beach. We’ll definitely be back!

The owner is an absolute legend and went out of his way to make sure we had a good time. We had a great family holiday with our boys, aged 9 and 4, using the cottages as a base to explore the area. At Billy’s Beach, we checked out the rock pools and even saw an octopus. There was lots of wildlife around the grounds, and the colourful birds came by each morning. The cottages have everything you need, plus a well stocked fun room with heaps of DVDs and games. The BBQ was a nice addition too. Can’t recommend it enough. Tip: book direct and save a packet on Airbnb fees!
