The sound of the waves at night was probably my favorite part, and the coastal walk to the pier is an easy, lovely one that takes about 45 minutes. Our cabin was clean and well cared for, with a comfortable bed, a handy kitchenette, air conditioning in the living area, and a small bathroom that did the job. It’s right by the beach and about a 25-minute drive from Currie. Plan ahead for food and groceries, since the shops and restaurants are in Currie. Wild Harvest in Grassy was a lovely option for a romantic dinner. Great value if you’re after a quiet seaside break.

The manager was so friendly and helpful, and the cabin had all the practical things we needed, plus little extras like candles and matches. The kitchenette worked well, the towels were thick and soft, and even the sofa bed was comfortable. From the window you get an open view of the beach, just across the road. The buildings and furniture are a bit dated, but the setting and amenities make up for it. A quiet, low-key place at a good price.

There aren’t any shops or cafes here, so bring your own supplies. Phone reception is limited too, and we had to ask a friendly local to help us reach the caretakers and get checked in. The four self-contained cabins sit right on the water in a quiet, secluded village on King Island. Ours was clean and peaceful, with everything we needed and an ocean view. It had a relaxed, laid-back feel. There used to be a restaurant, but it seems to have closed during covid.

Naracoopa has no shops, so stock up at the Currie supermarket if you’ll be here a few days. The cabin had a stove, microwave, tea and coffee, pans, plates, cutlery, and the other basics we needed. It was clean and comfortable, and right across from the beach. The owners were friendly and quick to respond when anything came up.

The menu isn’t huge, but there’s a good range of tasty food at reasonable prices. The Taiwanese family currently running the restaurant are lovely, and they give familiar dishes a really good twist. There’s been a lot of turnover among the chefs and cooks lately. Don’t miss the marshmallow toast for dessert. One of the best sweets I’ve had in a while.
