Admiral Nelson Motor Inn

The room was spacious and fairly clean, though dated, and those are the reasons I’m giving it two stars instead of one. The TV was large and new, but Netflix kept pausing to buffer because the internet was so slow. The fridge cooled well and had plenty of room, though its loud hum added to the nighttime distractions. The AC worked efficiently but wasn’t especially quiet. The location is OK, near Fly Point and Little Beach, but it’s about a 30-minute walk to the main part of town. Sleep was the big problem. The bed seemed smaller than a queen, though I didn’t measure it, and the mattress was soft and completely worn out. There was no support, and I could feel every spring. The walls by the beds were paper thin, so inconsiderate neighbors made it impossible to get a wink of sleep. Wi-Fi was too slow to use, so overseas visitors should get a local SIM card. We’re locals ourselves. Nelson Bay is overpriced in general, and I regret not staying in Newcastle. I often use motels for short trips and have found amazing places all along Australia’s East Coast and across Tasmania for half what Lord Nelson cost. Only the horrible Queenstown Hotel in Tasmania was worse.

We keep choosing this motel for special occasions, and it’s my absolute favourite place in the world. It’s immaculately clean, and Cam and her family are truly beautiful people who always look after us. Every morning, the lovely rainbow lorikeets fly in while we have coffee, and we feed them. I recommend it 100%, with nothing but good things to say. Thanks, Cam 💜🌸💜

Friendly staff, a pool and parking on site, and a shower with great pressure. The rooms were clean and the price was good. Great place to stay.

We spent three lovely nights here. It was quiet and easy to reach, with a handy spot between Shoal Bay and Nelson Bay. Our room was very good for a reasonable price. Some areas have a Balinese look, but it’s not overdone, and we loved relaxing in the covered space at the front. The staff were friendly and accommodating. We’ll definitely stay again.
