Best Western Travellers Motor Village

Apart from the security issue, it’s a lovely motel. The woman at reception was kind and showed us where cabin #30 was, with parking beside it. But the only entrance is a glass door at ground level that opens straight into the room above. There’s no security screen, and the inside twist lock seems reachable if someone broke through the large glass panels. That left us feeling completely unsafe, and it needs urgent attention. The coffee cups were filthy, and there was no tea towel or scourer.

I wouldn’t stay here again. After a 12-hour drive in the rain, I arrived tired and soaked, only to find there wasn’t enough trailer parking despite being told there would be plenty. The woman managing reception said she could see spaces on the cameras, but wouldn’t come out to check. The key for room L04 didn’t fit the handle properly, though I eventually got in and found an unmade bed, coffee spilled on the counter, and a dirty mug. I was charged for a room that hadn’t been made up. I went back to reception upset, but I didn’t raise my voice or swear. The woman told me to calm down or deal with her husband. I was annoyed, as anyone would be, and felt her response showed little regard for guests. I was given another room, but the manager’s attitude still made this a poor experience.

The motel was nice and clean, and otherwise really good. The room did smell of the dirty cloths or mops the cleaners seemed to have used.

I’d have liked a slightly bigger wash basin in the bathroom, but otherwise my one-night stay worked well. I had a small cabin to myself with a comfortable double bed, good shower pressure, a microwave and a kettle. It was close to the depot where I needed to work. A pub was only a couple of minutes’ drive away for a meal, and the 7-eleven was a two-minute walk for a late snack or coffee. Quiet neighbours helped me sleep, and the receptionist was friendly and welcoming.
