At $250 a night, this was nowhere near what I expected. The rooms are tiny and feel old and neglected, and water from the air conditioner kept dripping onto the balcony. Once we put a walker in the room, there was barely space to move, so I don’t think the hotel is suitable for people with disabilities. On a 40-degree day, the air conditioner couldn’t cool our room. The shower had a filthy suction style non-slip mat, and after I removed it, the water still didn’t drain properly and flooded the bathroom. The sheets were torn and the pillows were in unacceptable condition. Later that night, after a concert, we found a dead cockroach in the bathroom and small insects around the room. I knew Mercure Maitland Monte Pio was an older building and expected some charm, but it was the opposite. At checkout, the front desk manager seemed more interested in asking for photos than dealing with our experience, although payment had been taken promptly on arrival. I won’t stay there again.

My boss booked me in here for work. The rooms were clean and tidy, and the staff were really friendly and helpful. The bar and restaurant were excellent. I’m looking forward to staying again.

This was one of the worst places we’ve stayed. We drove down from Queensland and arrived around 10pm. Beforehand I tried several times to call and let them know we’d be late, but each call rang briefly and disconnected. When we got there, about six or seven cats scattered near the foyer entrance. We passed the first electronic door but couldn’t get through the second one. A sign said late arrivals should use the phone in the doorway. We called repeatedly and could hear it ringing inside the foyer, but nobody answered. Eventually an English gentleman came downstairs to let us in. He was very nice and apologetic, explaining that the foyer phone hadn’t been switched over to his phone. The room was old and dated, and there was a cockroach in the shower. Cleanliness was disgraceful: dirt and dust had collected under the glass tops on the desk and bedside drawers, and the TV remote badly needed a wipe. On our second night we returned around midnight, but our swipe card opened the hotel door and not our room. We had to ask the same gentleman for help. He apologized and fixed the card. We’d booked three nights but gave up the last one and stayed elsewhere. At checkout, the staff member didn’t ask why we were leaving early or whether everything was okay. For a Mercure, this hotel was extremely poor and disappointing. We won’t return.

The staff were delightful, and there was plenty of parking. We stayed for a few nights at this beautiful boutique hotel. It’s undergoing, or about to undergo, a renovation, and we can’t wait to see how it turns out.

I won’t stay at an Accor property again, and I’ll tell my business contacts to avoid them too. I checked out after a work trip last week and paid for the meal from the night before. I asked for a tax invoice, but they said they couldn’t provide it then and would send one later that day. It never arrived, and the charge was taken twice. I’ve tried calling the number listed online several times, but the calls won’t connect. I also tried Accor and couldn’t speak to anyone.
