The bistro food was good, and the staff downstairs in the bar were nice. The rooms, though, were really dirty. I stayed in a single room for six nights. There were stains on the rug, several blood marks on the walls from people killing mosquitoes, and dried snot on the wall right next to the bed. Under the bed hadn’t been vacuumed for who knows how long. I found dead cockroaches, toilet paper bits and chocolate wrappers when I checked in. My room wasn’t cleaned once during the six nights, and nobody offered me a fresh towel. They didn’t provide basics like shampoo or soap either. When I asked, bar staff told me it was a simple pub and they didn’t supply those amenities. Do yourself a favour and pay the extra $20 for somewhere else. It’s way overpriced for what you get, even if it seems cheap at first.

We had a beer and an early dinner with the dog. It was pretty windy sitting outside, but the beer was cold and well priced. The menu had lots of choices. We ordered barramundi with salad and a pizza, and both meals were really good and came out quickly. The kitchen was busy with takeaway orders, but that didn’t hold up our food. If we lived nearby, we’d definitely get pizza from there again.

The bed was comfortable, and I liked having a mini fridge and microwave in the room. Check-out was easy, just leave the key in the box. The room was clean and simple, and for $95 on New Year’s Eve, I thought it was decent value. Towels were provided. The shared bathrooms felt a bit camp-style and somewhat gross, but the room itself worked for me. The staff were lovely. The older man was especially sweet and kind, one male staff member kindly helped carry my bags upstairs, and the girl who checked me in was a doll. One thing felt uncomfortable, though. Whenever I went into the bathroom to shower or use the toilet, someone would come in. I’d closed the door to shower, which took at most ten minutes, so I think people could wait a little. The woman upstairs who lives there was abrupt when she told me the air fryer and toaster were hers. I understand she wanted me to clean them, which is fine, but I think staff should tell people at booking that those things are off limits. Staff only mentioned a kitchen and bathroom, so it got awkward and left me feeling watched by her. It’s not a major issue, just something they could communicate better.

The food is great and offers good value for better-quality pub meals. Staff are always friendly, and there are plenty of regulars around. I’d say the welcoming service and fair prices are what keep the locals coming back, which is a good sign.

I haven’t stayed at or visited this place, but I live two doors down. They play the same beat on repeat all day, for 17 and a half hours. They open at 9:30 am and go until 3 in the morning, even on weekdays when people are trying to sleep before work. It seems like a cool place, but the music at night is extremely annoying. Playing it until 3 am during the week doesn’t seem okay.
