Charlie Bates Cottage had a lovely old world feel, with a historic setting, an open fire, and a comfortable bed. We had a lovely time there and would recommend it to anyone after a HISTORIC home for a romantic getaway with their Partner. The kitchen is well set up for self catering, with a microwave, oven, and all the pots and pans you'd need. The cottage was clean and tidy, and there was a good supply of firewood for the fire.

We booked Charlie Bates Cottage for two nights in Jan 2021 and paid the full amount upfront. COVID-19 restrictions stopped NSW residents from entering SA, so we couldn't make the trip. We hoped the borders would open in time, but when it became clear they wouldn't, we contacted Charlie Bates Cottage to ask for credit so we could re-book as soon as possible. We let them know 8 days before check-in that we had to cancel. We never heard back. I sent three emails, called, and left a voicemail. The cancellation terms say cancellations made 7-14 days before check-in incur a 50% fee, so we believe we're due a 50% refund of the accommodation cost paid upfront. It's been two weeks since the stay was supposed to happen and over three weeks since we first got in touch, and Charlie Bates Cottage still hasn't responded. They took our money and didn't honour their own cancellation terms. We'll take the case to the relevant regulator to try to recover it.

I didn't stay there. I was asked to clean the place as is, and based on that, I wouldn't pay more than 75 a night. It's a very old place and needs a lot of work to match what the online advertising shows. With some money spent on her, she could be worth staying in.

Fantastic views and scenery, with great facilities. The place was comfortable and warm, though a bit tide.

The historical artefacts were lovely. For a 100 year old building, it was exactly as ecpected.
