Seafront Holiday Park Kangaroo Island

The setting looking over Penneshaw Beach is beautiful, and the park could be so much better with some attention. I think it’s run by the local council. The bins near some sites smell bad and don’t seem to be emptied often enough. The bathrooms look tired, and the sites have very little grass left. Without concrete pads, it gets dusty. There’s a lot of potential here, but it needs urgent TLC. Hopefully things change.

The ferry was delayed because of fires, so I stayed here for a couple of nights. At 8am I called eight times before getting through, just to ask if I could leave my caravan somewhere on site for a few hours. They told me the site next to this caravan was booked by someone on a long stay, but I was lied to. I came back past several times, with the last one at 3:30pm, and apparently they had no room to let me park until lunchtime. I understand checkout time is checkout time, but a simple apology and an honest no would have been better.

The ensuite bathrooms were a real plus for us, especially with kids. There are five private ones, and they’re much roomier than ordinary camp shower cubicles. They could use a more thorough clean, though, and some of the walls and paintwork need TLC. The compact camp kitchen had what we needed, including a washer and dryer, but remember coins for the machines. We used Seafront Holiday Park as our base on Kangaroo Island. It’s a small, peaceful place with generous campsites. Our tent site was sandy and a little sloped, though flatter, grassier spots are available, so it’s worth asking when you book. It was a convenient, comfortable base, with a few things ready for a refresh.

We chose the caravan park for our last night on Kangaroo Island because it’s close to the ferry. The amenities were the cleanest I’ve seen in a long time. Whoever looks after and cleans them deserves a big pat on the back, and probably a pay rise.
