City Quarters on Brewer

We left after the first night and found somewhere else because the place felt frightening and unsafe. There were sketchy people hanging around, security seemed poor, and there was no reception staff. My room smelled strongly of bleach, and the window didn’t have a lock.

We asked management for a refund for the two nights we had left, but they refused and said they didn’t care. The shared bathroom was dirty, other guests were noisy, and there was no privacy. The advertising calls it a Premier Stay, but it felt like a third rate backpacker at best. A complete waste of time and money.

We only stayed one night out of the week we’d booked, and the bed was visibly covered in bed bugs. There was also mold in the room and the smoke alarm had been ripped out. When we contacted the accommodation, they were no help and refused to refund either the night we couldn’t stay or the alternative accommodation we had to pay for. We don’t intend to sleep in a bed with bugs, and they’re still refusing to refund the week. The problems started as soon as we arrived at City quarters on Brewer. We hadn’t been sent the entry codes and had to call and email several times before anyone replied. Later, the room door and lock were broken, and the door could be pushed open from either side. We didn’t feel safe staying there or leaving our luggage, and they couldn’t offer another room. They denied the door was broken until we sent photos and video. They said someone would fix it that day, but nobody came and we weren’t updated, so we booked somewhere else that night. The next day we were told the repair would have to wait because parts needed ordering, so we found another place again. On day three, after several unanswered calls, we got through at 3pm and were told someone was on the way. We got back around 4:30 while the joiner was fitting the door. The access code had changed, but nobody had messaged or called to tell us. Absolutely disgraceful.

The bed had bugs, and the service was awful. The owner knows about them but won’t do anything, and after waiting all day for clean sheets, I still got none. I called four times with no answer, then called with caller ID hidden and they picked up immediately. Disgusting. Both doors are partly broken, and the main one looks like it’s been kicked in before. They claimed they didn’t know about the bugs, but admitted to my sister that they did. I was meant to stay three nights, but came back on day two to find my bags in the kitchen and my room packed up. If I could, I’d add photos of the bugs. Spend a little more for somewhere comfortable. I really wouldn’t recommend this place.
