Quest East Perth

We go into Perth twice a year for a show and to stay in a nice hotel. This was a dismal night, though Carl Barron was fabulous, as were the staff at The Riverside Theatre. We’ll never use this hotel again. They didn’t have my booking even though I showed them the confirmation and receipt, and I had to pay twice. They told me to contact the booking agent myself to get the money back. The room they gave us had no balcony, though I’d booked one. Only one lift was working, and we waited nine minutes for it. I use a walking stick and can’t climb nine flights. The rooftop bar was closed on Sunday. Even the refreshment machine was out of order, and the hotel doesn’t do breakfast. It was 40 degrees, and we couldn’t find another hotel because Ed Sheeran was playing that night too. We were stuck in a small room where you couldn’t watch TV from the bed, only from the couch. What an incredible disappointment.

I spent eight days here last week and truly enjoyed the stay. Bruno at reception deserves 5 stars for commendable guest service. I started out in a studio apartment, but on the second night realized going down to the shared laundry would be too much trouble. He was extremely helpful in getting me a one bedroom apartment for the next day, even showing me photos so I knew what to expect. He also explained the free bus zone when I was unsure about it. The rooms were very clean, housekeeping came daily, and my things were neatly arranged. The property isn’t too far from the airport, and an Uber was a reasonable AUD18. The location is great, with bus stops opposite and beside, and car rentals nearby. The only hiccup was having to prebook a carpark space at AUD 30 a night. With the free buses, though, you don’t need much to get around Hay St and Murray St, up to Kings Park. The gym was also very clean and well maintained. I can’t rave enough and will be back.

The staff were genuinely friendly and helpful, the location was great, and the rooms were very clean. But our nine night stay had constant facility problems that affected sleep and the experience enough that we moved to a different Quest property for the rest of the trip. On day four, the boiler leaked and we had to move for a night. After it was supposedly fixed, it made loud vibrating noises through the night. We moved to a third room, where a strange loud sound came from the sink at random times. One of the two elevators was also broken for our whole stay, making trips to our room or the rooftop restaurant in an 18 story building very slow and frustrating. It seems like a great hotel for the price if everything works, but the maintenance issues left me with mixed feelings.

We stayed three nights in a Two Bedroom Executive Apartment. Having a 24 hour front desk helped, since we arrived after midnight. The apartment was cleaned every day, and the beds were comfortable enough for me to sleep well. It was handy having a washing machine and dryer in the unit, though there’s also a laundry room on the second floor. There’s a Red CAT bus stop nearby for trips around the CBD. If the weather’s nice, walking is another option. There are plenty of good food places and cafes in the area.
