McCaffrey's Estate

We joined McCaffrey's Estate Winery's Convivial Wine Club a year ago, and we're already looking forward to the "Winemaker for a Day" experience. As locals exploring the many Hunter Valley wineries, McCaffrey's is at the top of our list. Make time for a visit, the wine and the welcome are both a treat. Danielle and Declan, who own the family business, are delightful and know so much about winemaking. Their stories about how some of the wines got their names are enchanting. We recently tasted with Declan leading the session and, as usual, left with a box of wine. The Hunter Belle cheese served alongside was a perfect match. The name "Convivial" really fits the reception and experience from the moment you arrive at the cellar door. The range is superb, from vivacious Verdelho to a superb Sharaz, and every wine felt special.

Making our own wine was a wonderful experience. Dec was great and knew his stuff. This was the best wine tasting we've done, with wines that were all lovely to taste. I'd recommend the blended wine tasting to anyone visiting.

The Rosé was my favourite, absolutely delicious, and we took home wine and cheese because we couldn't resist having them again. We're already planning another trip and hope to bring friends and family along. At McCaffrey’s Estate, we felt looked after from the warm welcome right through to leaving. The tasting was relaxed but informative, and the stories behind the wines made it feel personal. You can tell how much the family cares about this boutique estate. Thank you, Declan and staff.

There were three of us, and we enjoyed every minute of the Wine Making Experience in the Hunter. Declan is a talented host who really knows his business. You leave with a bottle of wine you've made yourself, so if you don't like it, you can only blame yourself, since you were the winemaker that day. Very much recommend it.
