The Convent Hunter Valley Hotel

The hotel has charm and potential, but the stay felt underwhelming and nowhere near as luxurious as advertised. Staffing seemed noticeably thin, and that affected the service across the property. For what we paid, we expected a more attentive, polished experience and the level of detail that should come with a high-end stay. With more staff, better service and some TLC, it could be much better. As things stand, though, it didn’t live up to The Convent’s reputation or the premium price, and we left disappointed.

We’d definitely come back. We celebrated our third wedding anniversary here and had a wonderful time. Our room opened onto a verandah overlooking a garden, and the extensive grounds were beautiful. The service was thoughtful and attentive, including a sweet anniversary card they left for us. Breakfast options at the hotel were limited, but everything was well prepared and delicious.

We paid for a deluxe queen room expecting balcony views and a relaxing bath, but were given an accessible room without those features. There was no bath or balcony, the windows were sealed, privacy was lacking, and the room was detached from the main hotel. It took all the joy out of our holiday and felt nothing like what we’d paid for.

We spent a weekend away with my elderly parents to celebrate an anniversary and birthday. The staff were incredibly kind and accommodating. We requested an accessible room, which I’d recommend for anyone with physical limitations. It’s a great location for a romantic getaway or as a base for touring the vineyards.
