Central Motel Port Fairy

The room was spacious and reasonably priced, and the location was perfect, right on the main street near all the shops. After a big day exploring the town and the island/Lighthouse, I had the best sleep in a really comfortable bed. Check-in and check-out were easy, too. A perfect stay.

For a work trip, the central location, friendly welcome, and plenty of easy parking were good. The room, though, was dated, tired, drab, and uninviting. The layout was poor, and the bathroom was very old and uncomfortable. It seemed clean enough, but with everything so worn, it was hard to tell. The bed was OK and a bit lumpy; the stained blanket looked unhealthy. The room and bathroom didn’t feel like good value. Given the area and location, I was surprised the motel hadn’t been updated and freshened up. The wall heater worked well, but I imagine it would be roasting in summer without air conditioning. I stay in regional motels for work a lot, and this was one of the saddest stays I’ve had. If this were my only option again, I’d rather drive back to Melbourne. I can see why rooms were available for just one night on a public holiday weekend, when other places required two nights or were fully booked.

The room was quiet and clean, and I really appreciated the tap for filtered drinking water. Good value for money.

The staff were helpful and friendly, with plenty of local advice about where to eat and what to see. It’s an old-style motel in a blue stone building, clean and comfortable, and well priced. The location is quiet but right in the centre of town. We’ll go back on our next visit.
