The Oak and Anchor rooms were clean, lovely, and very stylish, though some design decisions definitely stood out. The bathroom is open to the room, toilet included, with a rusty-looking designer wall between the loo and bed that's decorative but transparent enough for eye contact with your partner. Quite an intimate setup, whether you want that or not. The bath looks beautiful overlooking the street, with a chic European boutique hotel feel. Getting the taps to a safe temperature was a challenge that felt like it needed an engineering degree, but once sorted, the bath was lovely. There's a huge bathroom bench but only one tiny sink and a little mirror, leaving a lot of unexplained counter space. The fridge is so small it seems suited to one glass of water. Extra bottles were tucked away in the desk's second drawer, which wasn't where I'd have thought to look. All jokes aside, the rooms are thoughtfully styled, with a few choices that made this an unforgettable stay and brought couples closer, perhaps more than they wanted.

We had a first-class meal at Oak & Anchor, and the staff were attentive even though it was very busy. Their service was seamless, the portions were just right, and everything was absolutely delicious. I'd highly recommend this hotel.

I wouldn’t recommend this property. We cancelled a full day before the deadline and have a record on Expedia showing both the policy and our cancellation date. The property charged us the next day anyway. They first told us to contact Expedia, but Expedia said it couldn’t help because we had chosen to pay at the property. Then the property claimed we’d missed the cancellation window, which wasn’t true. Expedia stepped in, agreed with us, and refunded the money, but the property still wouldn’t take responsibility. It’s really unfortunate when a place advertises one thing and does another.

The garden was lovely, and there was live music. Kirsten and her head-chef husband make a great team. I took her recommendation and the kingfish crudo was superb. The triple-cooked chips and scallops were lovely too. Thoroughly recommend.

The restored old building is beautiful, though parking is only on the street. Our room was clean and spacious, but being at street level meant it was a bit noisy. Breakfast was very ordinary, and the scrambled eggs were overcooked. Given the price, I left disappointed. In my experience, it didn’t live up to the Google reviews.
