Surf Beach Motel Port

We had a lovely few nights on holiday here. The location made it easy to get around, and the staff were lovely. There were a few cleaning issues, though: marks on the blanket and bedhead, plus quite a bit of dust and dirt coming from under the bed. Apart from that, we enjoyed our stay.

For a quiet, comfortable night or a few days, this motel was a great fit. It's rated three stars, though it felt about as good as plenty of four star motels I've stayed in. The room was modern, the check-in instructions were clear even though I arrived late, and check-in itself was easy. Staff sent everything I needed. Anyone complaining is just being fussy. I'd definitely stay again and highly recommend it. I was happy with the price, especially as nearby places cost more and didn't seem likely to be much better. The room was clean, the bed comfortable, and the location is spot on, close to town and the beach, with an easy walk to the bowls club. I worried a little about parking after reading reviews, but had a ground-floor room with a spot right out front. There are more spaces behind the complex for upstairs rooms. It seemed first come, first served, and there were spaces left when I visited. The street and room were very quiet, with no traffic noise, so I slept really well.

At least the bed was clean and very comfortable, and check-in was smooth. The staff member was friendly, too. The rest of the room was a letdown. There was a bad smell as soon as we walked in, and the dish sponge stank so much I threw it out. It already had little flies on it. There were food scraps left in the sink, the dishes weren't fully clean, hair all over the shower, and the shampoo bottle was empty. The room also had almost no soundproofing. At 7 in the morning, the guest next door ran an old diesel pickup for five minutes. It sounded as if the vehicle was right in our room. That was incredibly inconsiderate.

The room was small, but very clean and tidy, more than enough for travellers. The bathroom looked a little worn, though it was spotless, and the shower was wonderfully hot. There was a little fridge, microwave and toaster, and the bed was very comfortable. I just missed having a box of tissues, which I always notice because of my sniffles! The woman at reception was genuinely warm and friendly. Coming over the border from Qld, I thought the Sunny State had the edge on friendliness, but she changed my mind. I'd certainly stay at this great little motel again and recommend it to anyone after somewhere clean, comfortable and welcoming.
