Hotel Clipper

The rooms are lovely and the location couldn’t be better. I booked through wotif and chose to pay at the property, but at 9 am they called asking for my credit card payment. When I said I planned to pay cash on site, they refused and insisted I pay immediately. It was extremely frustrating because I wanted to use cash. I explained my concern, but the woman said they would unfortunately cancel my room. I was fine with putting the bond on my card since that gets returned, but requiring payment eight hours before check-in seems ridiculous.

The front desk staff and most of the cleaners were really great, and the rooms were fine apart from the shower pressure and temperature. Still, this is a decent little place if you don’t have another option. Three mornings in a row, cleaners tried to come in at the same time while my baby was asleep. A bit annoying, and the last person knocked much more quietly. If you happen to be out when they knock, just know they’ll go through the room haha. The shower was tricky to get to a steady temperature, and the water burned my son’s shoulders, so be careful, it gets very hot. There’s not much room for two people in there either. The cleaner who didn’t speak English was really grumpy when I asked for the room to be vacuumed that first morning, but she’ll be right. There’s only a door between your room and the people next door. That didn’t bother me, and neither did the loud air con, though they might bother someone else haha. I couldn’t find a plug near the bed, so bring an extension cord.

A disappointing meal after all the hype about the new and improved restaurant. Two of us ordered medium rare steak, but both came well done and tough, and the salad had no dressing. The fish was burnt and inedible, while the couscous salad arrived hot after 50 minutes and was inedible too. We went with friends and family to try the food. We won’t be back.

The chips were great, at least 🙄. We ordered four meals: one fish and chips, two steaks, and a couscous salad. The fish was terribly overcooked, and after two bites I couldn’t eat it. Its salad had no dressing. Both steaks, ordered medium rare, were served well done and very tough; only one salad had dressing. The couscous salad took nearly an hour.
