We ended up wishing we’d booked more time. With three full days, there were still so many nearby places to see, and we couldn’t decide between birdwatching around the lodge and heading out to explore. Next visit, we’re planning on a week or more. The grounds felt like a little tropical botanic garden, with bromeliads, orchids, palms and fig trees. The flowering and fruiting plants drew in a great variety of birds. Mungumby Lodge is wonderfully quiet, a few kilometres off the main road, while still close to Cooktown and the iconic Lion's Den Hotel. Bloomfield and Wujal Wujal Falls are further afield. We’d booked four nights to fill a gap between stays in Julatten and Crater Lakes on the Tablelands. We hadn’t been to Mungumby Lodge before, so arriving to find ten cabins tucked into a lush tropical garden was a lovely surprise. Our cabin had a roomy ensuite with space for luggage, and a very comfortable bed. We enjoyed the continental breakfast several times and cooked a few meals in the well-equipped shared kitchen.

We only wish we’d had longer, and we’ll definitely come back. The walk to the waterfall is a must, whether you go before or after a swim in the pool. The surroundings are fantastic, the cabins spotless, and the hosts lovely. You get a sense you’re in for a treat as soon as you drive onto the property. Thanks again for a much-needed break and such great service!

Waking up to rainforest sounds and birdsong was something special. Mungumby Lodge is a peaceful spot where it’s easy to switch off and recharge. The gardens are beautifully cared for, and a freshwater stream runs through the property. You can cool off with a dip or just sit and relax beside it. A lovely natural setting for anyone wanting to unwind.

The creek, rustling leaves and birdsong made everything feel so calm. It was quiet, private and tranquil, with rainforest all around. The lodge is immaculately clean and beautifully looked after, a green little paradise near Cooktown. The amenities were excellent, too, and you could see the thought and care in the details. There’s plenty of space for families and kids to safely explore and enjoy nature. Hamish and Isabella welcomed us with genuine warmth. They were friendly, helpful, happy to share local knowledge, and made us feel right at home. We loved our stay, including our 6 yr old boy, and are already planning to return. We didn’t try the walks, though they looked beautiful, and the nature and views were breathtaking. Our cabin was lovely, extremely clean and well made up. The bathroom was pristine, and the shower had incredible water pressure. We stayed at Mungumby Lodge on our trip back from Cape York to Gold Coast. Hamish and Isabella were compassionate, helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. Their pride in the lodge comes through in what they do, and they create a great atmosphere. We’re truly grateful for their hospitality.
