We had trouble from the start. I booked a room through the Virgin Velocity app, but no check-in details arrived. When I finally got the owner’s number, they didn’t answer. It took more than an hour of trying and waiting before we could get into the property. As soon as we opened the room door, we were disgusted and knew we couldn’t stay. There were white stains on the bed head, frame, wall behind it and chairs; holes in the sheets; and brown and black stains all over the carpet. The bathroom was mouldy and unclean, with hair and dirt in the drawers and on the floor, plus old soap and rubbish on the window sill. Cigarette butts littered the balcony, its chairs were broken and the table was filthy. There were spider webs in the room corners, and the door lock was half hanging off. It looked nothing like the staged photos on the booking platform. We took photos, left straight away and asked the booking platform for a refund because of the state of the room. Even with several photos showing how gross it was and how misleading the property details were, the owners and Virgin refused to refund us. Do NOT stay here. Here are some of the photos...

The kitchen, dining and lounge areas had a stunning outlook over the Derwent river, and the kitchen and dining space were beautiful. The lounge was spacious too. My room was roomy, clean and nicely presented, with its own toilet; the shared bathroom had a decent-sized bathtub, shower and two basins. Four of the five rooms had balconies, and laundry facilities were available. Parking is a bit misleading. There are spots, but they’re also used by the school across the road and some neighbours. It helps to wait until the school pickup or drop-off rush has passed. We loved our stay, and staff came nearly every day to keep the place tidy. A shame some guests couldn’t do the same.

The view was nice and the rooms were clean, but poor communication from the owner and mould in the bathroom really brought the experience down.

This was advertised as something other than a share house. The communal TV didn’t work, it was very noisy, and there was mould in the bathroom. The place needs some TLC. There wasn’t enough crockery, no air conditioning or fans, and parking was on the street rather than on site as advertised.
