Ibis Styles Salamander Shores

The hotel sits in an excellent spot, right behind the shoreline and a jetty. We were fortunate to get the only renovated room, which looked excellent. The rest of the rooms seemed very old-fashioned and really need an upgrade. Restaurant food was average, and service was practically nonexistent. We waited a good 20-30 minutes for our food at both fiber and breakfast.

The staff were very friendly and went out of their way to help, the breakfast was very good, and the location is great. My husband and I have just spent two nights at Salamander Shores. We’d stayed before and loved it, and although it was just the two of us this time, it’s also a great place for families and children. We travel a lot, and it suits groups such as golfers, families and couples. I’d give it five stars because I couldn’t fault the staff, food or location. We’ll certainly return and recommend Salamander Shores to anyone wanting a relaxing weekend.

The staff were friendly and the restaurant food was quite good, but I wouldn’t recommend staying based on the state of our room. We were there for five nights and found it very outdated and badly in need of repair. The hair dryer bracket wasn’t properly attached, the exhaust fan didn’t work, and one morning we found a dead cockroach. The lighting was quite dim, and the ceiling fan felt loose and was noisy. The only way to get air through the room was to open the front door and sliding door. The cupboard doors didn’t line up properly to close.

The dining room was pleasant and the meals were fine, but the room was a letdown. Our tiny balcony looked directly onto the pool, which certainly wasn’t an “ocean view.” The room felt tired and dated, and the fridge was noisy. The air conditioning worked surprisingly well for something that must have been at least 30 years old. The double bed was so saggy I couldn’t get out of it, so I slept in the single, which wasn’t much better. Even if the room isn’t due for renovation yet, there’s no excuse for not replacing the beds.
