Lumina Motel

We left at 4am because we couldn’t stand the smell any longer. The room reeked of damp, and everything looked stained and filthy. My skin still crawls thinking about it, and I hope I didn’t catch anything. It needs to be assessed by health authorities, and its star rating should be adjusted. There were no batteries in the air conditioner remote, and water dripped from the air conditioner onto the carpet. The toilet leaked across the bathroom floor, and the side of the vanity clearly hadn’t been cleaned in a long time. The bed had sheets but no blanket, just a stained doona in the cupboard. The woman upstairs was noisy during the night, going in and out to smoke. Her large dog barked and tried to go for us as we left. The owner seems to have no pride in the place and clearly hasn’t slept in the room we had. It shouldn’t be advertised anywhere, it’s not fit for people to use. They had a sign threatening a $50 charge if we didn’t clean up, but didn’t provide the cleaning supplies they claimed to.

Room 202 was huge and cleverly laid out as two separate spaces. In the entry area there was a sofa, tea and coffee facilities, a bar fridge, clothes hanger and wardrobe. The main bedroom had chairs, a table and a large, comfortable bed. It was a bit old, but I still slept well. The room also had Mitsubishi Electric air conditioning, ceiling fans, Google TV for YouTube and other streaming, and excellent internet speed. My balcony was a nice extra, and there’s a swimming pool too. The bathroom was spotless, with plenty of toilet paper and one of the best motel showers I’ve had, thanks to the great pressure and flow. There’s ample parking, and although I didn’t see an elevator, the staircases were easy to access. I was pleasantly surprised by the comfort and value at Camelot Motel in Gladstone. It’s budget-friendly without giving up cleanliness, comfort or amenities, and I’d highly recommend it for a short or long stay.

As soon as we went in, the rooms looked and felt dirty, and weren’t as advertised. The bed only had two sheets, the mattress needs replacing, and there was just a foot mat in the bathroom. We ended up leaving and finding another hotel for the night.

The photos make it look much nicer than it is. It’s quite run down and unkempt, and the bathroom, floors, pool and reception area were dirty. It was okay for one night if all you need is a bed to sleep in.
