Discovery Parks - Streaky Bay Foreshore

The park has a lot for kids, with a playground, plenty of open beach, and a games room. There are also BBQs, a pizza oven, a campers kitchen and a dining room. It's right on the bay, and the low tide comes during the day and later at night. The bouncy pillow was out of order when we were there. The big downside is how crowded it gets. Vans are squeezed in, and planter pots and a fence can make it hard to maneuver into a spot.

The room was unbearably hot, and the aircon wasn't working during a weekend with temperatures of 33-34 degrees. We only found out after driving three hours from home, when the manager, Razza, said human error meant nobody had called to tell us. We'd never have made the trip if we'd known. They offered to discount the second night if we stayed, but we were livid and asked for a refund, which came through a couple of days later. We drove home upset. We were looking forward to a relaxing day after Christmas, and this was a very poor experience. We'll never stay here again.

The waterfront site had a nice view, with big pelicans around, and the road looked tight for reversing in but was manageable. The sites are large enough to get into fairly easily. If reversing isn't your strong point, I'd practice somewhere first. Other guests sometimes walked through our site and put their chairs behind our caravan. It's public land, of course, but it can feel crowded and may not be the peaceful holiday you had in mind. The beach sites were okay, though swimming wasn't the best. It's good for crabbing, if that's your thing, or relaxing with a sunset drink. The grounds need a lot more maintenance: overgrown edges that hide curb drops and can be a trip hazard, weeds, dead grass patches, long grass in green areas and dirty bitumen. It feels like only the bare minimum is being done.

We booked two nights and added another three because we liked it so much. The amenities were clean and the service was great. The snack bar's fish and chips were the best I've ever tasted, and the lady running it really cares about giving great service. Don't miss this spot if you're driving the Nullarbor. We'll holiday here again.
