The place was filthy, with lots of cockroaches. The walls were faded, and the utensils, frying pans, and casserole dishes were tarnished. Even the small ceramic mugs looked like toilets. I wouldn’t feel safe using any of the cookware. It’s a very old, outdated share house. I was desperate for somewhere to stay while waiting for my other share house to become available, but DODGY NINA YUN kept asking us for more money. She’s Korean, which made her behavior feel like a shameful reflection on her. I felt sorry for my housemates from France, Japan, and China, who weren’t good at English and didn’t understand what their signed contract said. The landlord can only raise the weekly rent after you’ve stayed for a year, not during your first year. Contact NSW Fair Trading for support. There are supposedly ghosts on the second floor, though I’m not sure about the other floors. Feel free to see if you sense them between 2am and 3am.

The staff were friendly and approachable, apart from the woman who greeted us. She was blunt and abrupt, and didn’t explain anything about the hostel, its shared spaces, laundry, or toilets. That first impression wasn’t great. Our six-bed dorm felt crammed. Everything was new, but there was barely room to stand and sort our things. We also had no fan. Staff said ours was the only room without one and would fix it, but it took three days. They lent us the office fan, which was helpful, then reception came into the room around 7am the next morning without knocking and asked for it back while half the room was asleep. We were left without one again until another was brought in the following day. That same day I got back from work to find the room flooded because the shower had leaked, leaving our belongings soaked. Reception said this had happened at another hostel that used the same plumber. You’d think they would have someone else check the work to prevent it happening again. The staff were kind, but they don’t seem to communicate well with each other. They’re very on top of cleaning, which is good, though knocking on doors at 7 in the morning seems too early when people are likely asleep. After a week full of problems and promised fixes, I won’t stay here again.

The reception staff were friendly, and the place was generally clean. The hostel is very central, and the bedrooms were nice, if a little small. The kitchen and dining area were the big drawbacks. They’re extremely cramped, and at breakfast, lunch, or dinner it was almost impossible to move around. There are only about 20 seats for a large hostel. It also got noisy at night when people partied in the hallways.

The staff were extremely nice, but the bathrooms and showers on the main floors need work. Most bathrooms have no barrier to keep shower water from running across the floor, and the second shower may or may not have a door. The toilet room is so small you can’t stand at the sink and open the door. Ventilation is poor, so the bathrooms stay wet.

The beds are comfy and the location is great, if that’s all you need. But the kitchen gets crowded, and there are just three tables in the dining room. The bathrooms badly need an upgrade too. This is a party hostel, so avoid it if you want rest. It’s loud all day and night, and nobody seems to care.
