Boronia Lodge Burwood

For a last minute NYE stay, the room was pretty reasonable at $198, and check-in was easy. The receptionist was out, but I called the number on the door and she came over quickly. She was friendly and helpful. It’s a great spot, a block from Burwood train station and the shopping center. The bed was comfortable, with nice sheets and fresh towels, though there was no soap or body wash. I accidentally lifted the bottom sheet and ended up sleeping on the mattress protector without realizing it. I hadn’t looked closely at the bed. There were the amenities I expected, including a TV, Wi-Fi, kettle, toaster, fridge, AC, and a private shower and bathroom. I only used the fridge, TV, bed and bathroom. There wasn’t an in-room safe or lockbox. The two big problems were the street-facing ground floor room’s flimsy door and poor lock, and the lack of proper curtains. The thin veil could be seen through at night or from close up, so changing felt uncomfortable when people walked past to get to the carpark. I also kicked a piece of broken bottle glass in the shower. I wasn’t hurt, but it could have been worse. The shower needed a proper scrub too, with obvious mould and soap scum. A long-term resident I met at checkout was very friendly and suggested calling to book directly for a slightly better rate. They also said, as other reviews had, that the lodge is often used as a halfway house. For one last-minute night on NYE, I can’t complain too much, but I’d avoid room 2 if possible.

Clean rooms, handy location and shops nearby. Highly recommend.

I was glad to find a room at Boronia Lodge at short notice. Frank was pleasant and accommodating, meeting me on the front patio after the office had closed. The lodge and my room were neat and clean. The bed was comfy, and the bathroom was sanitary, with no grime or mould. It’s a quiet location. I’d happily recommend it.

It’s a nice place, but the cleaning was really slack. Our bed had the previous person’s hair on the blanket, along with dog hair. Someone had covered it with a white sheet to make it look clean.
