The Carrington Hotel

The staff made the strongest impression on me. Will at the front desk was charismatic and kind, and I really appreciated his hospitality. The Carrington is lovely, historic and beautiful. There’s a sense of years of energy in every room, from the library to the cocktail lounge. I also loved seeing the old photos of Katoomba and the Carrington through the years. And the classic lift was very cool!

My only real downside was the floorboards. They squeaked so much that people walking past woke me during the night. Otherwise, I had a lovely stay at the Carrington Hotel. The historic charm and beautiful architecture, along with its convenient Katoomba location, made it memorable. The staff were friendly and the room was comfortable. I’d happily return.

I come back every year for my birthday and a bit of indulgence. The Grand Dining Room food is amazing, and sitting by the fireplace with cocktails is divine. The decor really takes you back. Best hotel in the Blue Mountains.

The hotel is right in the centre of town, with plenty of places to eat and drink if you don’t want to dine there every day. There’s a tourist bus that picks up and drops off right outside for trips to local lookouts. On site, there’s a good liquor and provedore with local wines, a few bar snack options, and craft beer brewed at the hotel. I love that they serve Coopers Pale Ale, a 100% authentic Australian owned and brewed beer since 1862 in South Australia. I was in a Colonial Room. It was simple, comfortable, Art Deco style, with an ensuite, air conditioning for summer and central heating for winter. It’s a heritage building, and the old-world feel is part of the charm. You’re taking a walk back in time, not walking into a state-of-the-art hotel. There are lounge areas with open fires in winter where you can sit with wine or beer, a wide front veranda for a G&T, and a games room with a billiard table. The hotel doesn’t have a restaurant as such, but has an old-style Grand Dining Room that fits the atmosphere. As far as I know, it’s one of only two on the Mountains, the other being Jenolan Caves House, which is currently closed for renovations. It’s best to book for dinner. Breakfast is served there each morning and doesn’t need a booking.
