Kingsgrove Hotel

The pub downstairs had a lovely feel to it, and the staff were friendly and attentive. The rooms were clean, comfortable and looked after well, and the food was better than I expected from a pub. They also made really nice cocktails for the Easter holiday. I had a great stay and would come back.

We stayed from the end of Nov to the beginning of Dec 2025, having paid for a king size bed and the advertised king size bedroom with a desk and windows. The room was much smaller than the online photos suggested. There was no desk, just one chair, and the only window was in the ceiling. With the lights off it was very dark. The gap between the bed and bar table was only five inches, so I kept bumping into it. The staff were friendly, the neighborhood was quiet, and the location was handy for the supermarket, restaurants and train station. The king size mattress seemed new and was very supportive. I appreciated the smoke-free environment and that there were no air fresheners upstairs. We enjoyed the tasty T-bone steak set dinner with red wine at the restaurant on Tuesday night. There was noise throughout the hotel, including late at night. Housekeeping replaced the bath and hand towels, but once didn't make the bed. The coffee milk was repeatedly not refilled, the bathroom and bedroom bins weren't emptied, there was no vacuuming, and the sheets weren't changed during our stay. We mentioned the problems once to the front desk/bar, but they continued. After a while we started joking with each other about what we'd find when we opened the room door each night, hahahaha.

A nice venue, and the Monday night poker is great. The meal deals are decent, like beer with a schnitzel for 21$, though the food portion felt a bit small. There was an illegal card surcharge, and the drink selection is a little limited.

The room had constant noise and vibration from outside air conditioning or some other equipment, which made proper sleep impossible. The ongoing shaking was uncomfortable and worrying from a health point of view. I understand some rooms don't have this problem, but changing rooms meant rebooking at a higher rate. It was really disappointing to be asked to pay more to address an issue caused by the hotel's own facilities.
