I’m leaving a review here because Booking cut off the one I was writing before I’d finished. I liked the locker size and the location, but I wouldn’t stay again unless I was desperate. The mattress sagged in the middle and I slept badly. Wi-Fi worked whenever it felt like it, especially failing in the evenings and dining area. There was no space in the refrigerators or on the dry-food shelves, so I couldn’t keep dinner there on any night; some guests started putting food boxes on the floor. The kitchen didn’t have scissors either. Guests can arrive after 10 pm and sometimes turn on lights at 1 am, disturbing others. I know the hostel can’t control how people behave, but it’s frustrating. Laundry isn’t allowed until after 2 pm. Surely it’d make more sense for the hostel to do its laundry in the middle of the day, when most backpackers are out.

My private room was spacious, clean and comfortable. Newtown is a great part of Sydney to stay in, really cool and close to the city. I’m taking off a star for the cockroaches, though there were only a few and they were pretty chill.

The host was very friendly, and my private room was clean and away from traffic noise. It’s a great location for amazing food, less than a block away. The bathroom was disgusting. People were yahooing in the courtyard right outside my window late into the night, and others kept coming and going noisily. I could even hear the shower running at 2:30 in the morning.

A great-value hostel with always-clean rooms. Mine had its own bathroom with a toilet and shower, and the price was good.

The kitchen and cooking facilities were good, and storage was available before my flight. The location is handy, just off King St with Mexican places, bars and cafes close by. It’s also near enough to the airport that an Uber actually costs less than the train, given Sydney’s airport train station prices. My dorm was clean and had an ensuite for a little more than the standard dorms. Towels were available for a small fee with a bond. There seemed to be a crew staying there at the time, and everyone knew each other, but they seemed welcoming. It’s still a hostel with backpackers, hippy nomads and Instagrammers, and it wasn’t perfect. The price felt fair, the pool looked clean, and I’d most likely stay again.
