Ovolo Sydney Woolloomooloo, a Wyndham Hotel

The “kitchen” venue looked chic and fun, with different kinds of seating, and the lighting made it feel great at night. We had our small wedding reception there a year ago today, in 2025, and I’m sorry we forgot to share our kind words sooner. It was a wonderful experience, and we’re grateful for all the hotel staff’s help. We didn’t have a wedding planner and nearly DIYed the whole event, but the staff put up our welcome banner, decorated with flowers and lights, arranged the lighting on the long tables and set out the flowers we supplied. They handled our alcohol consumption responsibly and served the cake beautifully. Even though it was only a 35-person reception, they treated us with respect and were so warm and friendly. It was raining that morning, so we couldn’t take photos outside. The interior was very photogenic and gave our morning photo shoot a “magazine” feel. It’s probably THE BEST place for a small reception if you want a relaxed, warm, house-party sort of atmosphere.

The city views from our room and the comfy king bed were the best parts of a trendy, cosy stay at Ovolo, where the service was great. The free buffet breakfast was a nice bonus, with lots of choice and fresh-cooked food using quality ingredients. The waiter and bar staff were friendly and helpful. We had trouble getting Ubers even though the hotel is close to the city, so we took a taxi to the airport. Ovolo offered a shuttle, but the quote was $140; our taxi cost $45, a better choice if you’re on a budget. It’s about a 20-minute walk to the city centre, with buses available, and 10-15 minutes on foot to the trendy cafes and restaurants in Potts Point. Keep the distance in mind if you don’t like walking. A nearby pub made quite a bit of noise, so light sleepers might want earplugs. The room was clean enough, though the bathroom exhaust fan really needed cleaning. I’d say it suits a short stay if you’re not going into the city much. For a week or longer, I’d definitely recommend hiring a car.

We put together a last-minute birthday trip for my wife and daughter and had a fantastic stay at the Ovolo Sydney. The room and facilities were fabulous, and the staff were beyond excellent. They surprised us with a cake waiting when we came in, which really topped off the stay. I appreciated that thoughtful touch, and I’ll recommend the hotel to friends and family.

The view was lovely, and I enjoyed the pool and the alcohol-free drinks. There were two mocktails to choose from, along with juice, soft drinks and I think Red Bull. The stay was okay, but for what it cost, the quality didn’t feel worth it. Housekeeping was pretty lacking: there was rubbish left by the previous guest when we arrived, and bath salts and a bar of soap were missing from the bathroom. We had to ask several times for the bath salts to be replaced, and they finally showed up on day two. In general, the room wasn’t cleaned very thoroughly.
