Pullman Sydney Hyde Park

The view across Hyde Park was lovely, and I slept really well in the comfortable bed. We had a great two days at the Pullman. Breakfast was good, and the staff were nice. Parking was a huge help: book and pay ahead, and the barrier opens when you arrive. You can park on levels 3, 4 or 5, then take the lift straight to the lobby. Thank you.

The rooftop pool furniture is worn and old, and there’s mould on the ceiling in the gloomy hotel bar. The place could use some money spent on it. We also had a 45-minute wait for room service to bring a bottle of wine, so I tried the bar, but it was closed. Reception couldn’t help either. Our minibar wasn’t stocked, the room wasn’t serviced on the first day, and there was no tomato juice for Bloody Marys when the bar was open. For me, it’s four stars at best. The little details are what make a hotel feel truly five star.

The location overlooking Hyde Park was beautiful, and I found the room spacious and comfortable, with everything I needed. The bath tap wasn’t working properly, though that was a minor issue. The hotel was clean, and check-in was easy thanks to a very kind, helpful and patient receptionist. She said she was still training, but you wouldn’t have known from how brilliantly she looked after me. I had a wonderful stay and would happily come back. The warm service made it special.

We really enjoyed our long weekend. The rooftop pool, spa and sauna were plenty for a short stay, and the views up there were beautiful. From our room, Hyde Park looked gorgeous too. Shops, museums and galleries were close by. Breakfast didn’t have a huge range, but what was there was decent. The lolly cart in the lobby was a hit with young and old, and happy hour at the lobby bar felt intimate but fun.
