Quest Liverpool

The manager on duty worked hard to cut $80 from our expenses, which is why I’m giving one star. I also understand the hotel undercuts Booking.com room prices, though I’m not sure what Booking.com would make of that. We were led to believe during booking that one room could sleep four adults. The confirmation PDF then listed three adults, and we were charged $500 for another room. The hotel also left fire doors propped open, against city fire safety rules, and there were flies in our room. Those issues cost it four stars. It’s an expensive place with some questionable practices.

Quest Liverpool put us right beside the neighborhood’s 4 a.m. soundtrack, and the thin walls carried every bit of it. Police sirens seemed never-ending. Someone kept doing burnouts in a 2005 Corolla just outside our window. I couldn’t see the smoke, but could smell the rubber. Heavy machinery was running too, with vibrations that rattled my teeth. No idea if they were repairing the road or digging a way out. It felt like trying to sleep inside a bass drum during a riot. The hotel is downtown, in a place so “vibrant” even the pigeons look like they’re out on parole.

We were close to the station and Westfield, and the room had good facilities and plenty of storage. The location was handy, though being near the hospital made it noisy. I stayed seven nights, but room service was only okay on the first day and wasn’t good enough after that. The balcony apartment was unsettling with a toddler: there was no child-safe lock on the balcony door, so I had to move the chairs and table out of the way. If you’re bringing young kids, speak with management first to make sure the room suits you. It was okay overall, but could be better.

We arrived just before 10 p.m. on a Monday with no booking, after being stranded on our first night in Australia. Quest found us a room without hesitation, and later let us extend our stay several times. Everyone was patient, kind, and very helpful. It was a great base for us, with trains, buses and Ubers nearby and Westfield within walking distance. It felt like a home away from home. We enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend Quest Liverpool.
