Greenwich Inn Sydney Hotel

We booked three nights but left after two because those beds were so awful that we didn't want to sleep in them again. We woke up sore, and the pillows were flat as a pancake. The bedding itself was clean, though. At first glance the room seemed clean, but after setting down our luggage and looking properly, we found hairs and rubbish in the drawers and dried liquid on the desk, chairs, and bedside table. I ended up buying antibacterial wipes to clean the surfaces and remotes myself. The room was underwhelming in every way. The hotel was cheaper and within walking distance of the train station, but the small parking spaces were very limited. We were on the top floor and had to carry our luggage up four flights of stairs. If we'd been able to get a refund, we would gladly have stayed somewhere else.

It's a comfortable, compact room that was perfectly adequate, and the building, though older, has been refurbished and was spotlessly clean. The reasonable price includes a help-yourself continental breakfast. It's not the Grand Hyatt, but the price reflects that. I'd recommend it for a shorter stay, especially if you have appointments at the RNSH. I wouldn't choose it for a holiday.

When I got back from the hospital around 8pm, I opened a drawer and found empty cigarette packets inside. The bedside drawer also had rubbish from a previous guest. There was mould in the shower and on the walls, no bulb in the bedside lamp, and it looked as if the beds had been made but nothing else cleaned. I had checked in, dropped off my bags, and gone straight to a specialist and tests. Reception was closed when I returned, and still closed when I left at 7am to travel home, so I couldn't raise it in person. I emailed photos and got a link to a rate-my-stay form, but it kept bouncing back when I tried to submit it. I thought someone would contact me. They were quick enough to take my money. Very unhappy guest.

A hot shower, working toilet, and clean sheets might be enough for some, but the hairs on the bathroom floor, mould in the grout and on the ceiling, and the general state of the place were a letdown. It needs a thorough deep clean. The appliances need replacing, the flaking paint needs attention, and the powerpoints should be replaced for safety. Carpets and curtains need cleaning to get rid of the odors. Breakfast is self-service, so a 7:45am start feels rather late.
