The Menzies Sydney

The room was clean and the location was great. Most of the staff were friendly and helpful, and I enjoyed the buffet breakfast. I'd stay again, though the front desk person at checkout was rather surly and could have been friendlier. The bill was fully paid, and we left the room clean and tidy.

The lobby is quite pretty, and the breakfast included in the room rate was very good. They let me check in at 7am after my flight from LAX and loaned me an electronic currency converter. The room was spacious, but seemed dirty and smelled musty. The bathroom was shabby and worn, and the upholstery had stains. When I pulled out the nightstand to plug something in, there was dust, debris and trash on the floor. The TV was miniscule and didn't have CNN. The workout room had no towels, cups or bottles for water, or sanitizing wipes, and there was no lotion in the bathroom. I thought the place was pretty gross and would never stay there again.

The bed was very comfy, and the staff, service and location were all great. My room felt dated, though, and the thermostat was poorly fixed to the wall and didn't work, so it was very cold. It was only one room, of course, so most are probably better.

We had a wonderful stay and felt really well looked after by everyone. At breakfast the next morning there was a good choice of continental and cooked food. It was busy but never congested. When we arrived, the person at reception greeted us with a big smile, checked us in efficiently and upgraded us to an Executive suite for my wife's birthday. The room was clean and a little out of date, but suited the hotel's whole theme. They brought up complimentary champagne and two handwritten birthday cards, which made us feel special. The person delivering the champagne also arranged finger food without any fuss and recommended a few menu items. We'd definitely stay again. Thanks Menzies Team for making it memorable! KR & CR
