Wallacia Hotel

This used to feel like a welcoming, family-friendly place, which made our recent visit to the Wallacia Hotel especially upsetting. The food and atmosphere were enjoyable at first, but Bree’s behaviour as our waitress spoiled the experience. She made repeated rude, unnecessary remarks to the women at our table, including a negative comment about my friend’s makeup. She was also overly familiar with my friend’s partner, flirting and touching him excessively enough that he looked uncomfortable. Her treatment of him was noticeably warmer than her treatment of the rest of us. She brought his food over politely with friendly comments, but put my friend’s meal down abruptly and without acknowledgment. We also noticed she seemed warm with male customers while being dismissive toward women. One staff member’s conduct has tarnished a place we used to love visiting. I hope management takes this seriously. Customers shouldn’t be made to feel disrespected or uncomfortable while dining here.

I wanted to support a local place and give it another chance under the new owners, but after dinner the other night, I won’t be back. I’ve lived in Silverdale for years and already avoid Wallacia because of its horrible staff. This wasn’t the first time this woman had been rude, and her behaviour was disgusting. We were there with about 10 other people, and all of us were appalled by how rude she was. The young blonde woman at the register seemed moody and like she didn’t want to be there while taking our orders. Then the short, middle-aged woman with dyed red hair was rude and disrespectful, to put it mildly. My partner’s parmi came without the gravy I’d ordered. I went back for a side of gravy, and she snapped that I hadn’t ordered it. I said I definitely had and had repeated my order twice to confirm. She insisted gravy was already on the plate. I knew there wasn’t any, but went back to check, then returned and told her so. She rolled her eyes, scoffed, grabbed some gravy, and rudely slid it across the table, saying, “Next time order it!” It’s still trash.

We stopped for lunch midweek and found plenty of space. The venue is large, with well-spaced tables and benches, and the facilities were in good condition. There’s a partly covered beer garden and it’s dog friendly. On a cool day, nobody minded when we moved under more cover with our two small, very quiet dogs. Lots of menu choices, a wide drink selection, quick service and friendly staff.

The food was nice and reasonably priced, and the bar service was good. We had lunch in the outside garden under the large tree at Wallacia Hotel, but ended up leaving because smoke kept blowing toward us. People were smoking in another area nearby despite the No Smoking signs, and another man was smoking just outside the indoor section close to where we were sitting. I thought smoking was banned almost everywhere except outdoor areas away from the venue. It’s a nice pub, but I won’t return because of the smoking.
