When I stayed at Zing Backpacker for two months in 2012, the general atmosphere was good and I met some really nice people. It worked well as a cool place for backpackers who want to have a good time in Sydney. Kings Cross is a lively part of town, with bars, shops, supermarkets, restaurants and fast food all around. Just remember that rates get very expensive at Christmas and NYE. The staff were OK while I was there, and the facilities were clean and functional. My room was a little dirty and not very spacious, and some rooms have no windows. I was in a long-stay room with a balcony that didn't feel very safe, and staff came by to clean it less often. The kitchen was really small at the time and quickly filled up with people cooking around meal time. If you're after somewhere relaxing, keep in mind it's a youth hostel with people from all over the world.

I only meant to stay a few days and ended up there for more than a week. The prices were affordable, and I found it social, well staffed and a great hostel in a great location. The front desk team were always friendly and helpful with directions, and they showed backpackers interesting spots around Sydney. There's a communal kitchen with free appliances, and the rooms were clean. I'll definitely return to Zing and recommend it to other travelers.

There are always people mingling, and I've met some really cool ones so far. The staff have been sweet since day one, and someone even helped carry my things to my room. The whole hostel feels open, with sunny courtyards and lots of breezes. I've found everything clean, though the soap dispensers always seem low, so I got hand sanitizer. There's also a bike lockup and a job board, which I haven't used yet but might later. My four-person room feels big enough. It has a mini fridge, a clothes cabinet, a cabinet that locks up valuables, a cubby for extra things and a large mirror for getting ready. There are plenty of bathrooms and kitchens. I've stayed at three hostels in Sydney so far, and this is my favorite. Prices are reasonable too. I'm here over Christmas and NYE, and it's cheaper than I expected. I'd stay here again if I come back to Sydney.

The people here were kind when I got sick one morning, even though I felt embarrassed. Nobody said anything, and they brought me medicine to help me feel better. The beds were comfortable, and the outdoor area was a nice patio for chatting and having a drink. I visited in August with a friend, and we'd stayed at three hostels in the area. This was the only one where people were friendly and made an effort to be our friends. We found people to go out with, and they made sure we both got home after I drank too much. This place is full of people who could become lifelong friends if you give it a chance. Keep an open mind when you travel and appreciate the little things.

Pretty nice hostel, about a five-minute walk from Kings Cross station. The four-bed women's room was very nice, with a fridge, shelves for belongings and clothes, wooden flooring and a balcony, and the price was reasonable. The staff were helpful. The downside was limited internet, just 300 MB a day.
