House of Ullr

We didn’t stay overnight, but the Mexican food earned five stars from us. Those maple chicken wings are so good. Boy oh boy 👌🏽

I couldn’t find a separate place to review the restaurant, so I’m leaving this here. We ate there a couple of nights ago and the food was awful. It was also pretty clear none of it was being cooked to order. If they can’t make food from scratch, they might as well stay closed like much of the village does in November. Maybe Ullr’s guests get fresh meals, but we certainly didn’t. Zero stars for the Mexican restaurant.

The bloke who served us was nice, but the meal itself was underwhelming and the portions felt too small for the price. I’d choose the Terrace and pay a little extra for a much better meal. We’d called two days ahead because the website showed fully booked and said to phone about availability. The girl who answered was dismissive and told us they had no openings for three days. The next day we looked online again and, sure enough, there were more than five time slots available.

The service and facilities didn’t come close to justifying the $520 a night we paid. I emailed before arriving to say it was our anniversary and was told they’d arrange something, but nothing was there. A staff member mentioned days later that they’d get us margaritas, and that never happened either. Our room was shabby, dated and dusty, with worn carpet. Dust was all over the side tables, lamp, skirting boards and bathroom. The online photos gave a completely different impression. When we arrived, the blind was broken. Staff said they already knew, but it hadn’t been fixed before check-in. They eventually replaced it and left the broken one in the room, so we had to carry it downstairs ourselves and ask for it to be taken away. Housekeeping was dismissive when we asked, offering only fresh towels. Later, while we were out, they came in and left the room unlocked. At checkout, luggage storage meant leaving our bags by a table in a busy staff passage with no security. We’d even been directed through that same area at check-in. For more than $500 a night, this felt like a cheap roadside motel, not the nice stay advertised. We were very disappointed. Save your money and stay somewhere else.
